ANSWER
You can! But not at "Screen saver" but in the "Options"-menu at
"Savety & Security".

ANSWER
Delete the file UFO.INI and restart UFO.
If this doesn't help please reinstall UFO.

UFO runs very slowly on my system.
ANSWER
Deactivate the following options step by step in order to determine
if UFO works faster afterwards.
■ Save selection (at "Options|Configuration")
■ DirectDir (in the "Commands"-Menu)
■ Display File-Infos (at "Options|Configuration")
■ Keep a log file (at "Options|Safety & Security")

UFO is shareware - but what is it anyway?
ANSWER
"Shareware" means that you share (copy) software and that you may
evaluate it for a certain time (at UFO you have 30 days). If you do
not like the program anyway just delete it.
But if you want to use this software furthermore you "register" at
the author(s). This means you pay a small fee (At UFO it is $25)
and you get the "registered version" in which all shareware indications
and all possible restricions (At UFO there are none) are removed. Of
course, you must not share this version.

Is it true - how Udo K. claims -, that you have no idea of computers?
ANSWER
Yes, we're afraid so. We already have grave depressions. We even thought
of committing suicide. But according to our own estimation we are too
stupid for that.

ANSWER
That is quite normal. We hope that we can get rid of this cut soon.

It takes too long when UFO returns from a program call.
ANSWER
Try to activate the fast mouse reset (Options|Configuration|Fast mouse
reset).
If you can go without the mouse in UFO switch "Use mouse" to off
(in the "Options"-menu at "Configuration").
And if you do not need the file selection to be saved during a program
call deactivate this funtion ("Options|Configuration|Save selection").

UFO supports archiver. But what are "archivers" and where can I get them?
ANSWER
Archvers are programs which compress files, this means to shrink them.
Files are not of use while being compressed - they first have to be
"extracted".
You can recognize compressed files - we also call them "archives" -
from the extensions. For example: "ARJ", "ZIP", "LZH" or "RAR".
The use of archivers is normally connected to cryptic command input
at the DOS prompt. UFO takes this work from you. Archiver like ARJ
or PKZip you can get in BBSs, at shareware distributors or at
shareware vending machines which you can find in some libraries and
department stores.

Why doesn't the user menu work?
ANSWER
The menu file delivered with UFO is only an example. It is easily
possible that you do not actually have all programs used there
(or they are not in the correct directories).
Create your own menu file! How to do this, you can learn from the
file UFO.DOC.

Why doesn't the archver support work or only partially?
ANSWER
Check out if the archiver that was used to create the archive is
available. In most cases you can see that from the extension. Make sure
UFO can access a valid temporary directory. You may change it at
"Options|Configuration|Temp directory".

I cut out a marked text block inside the UFO editor. The block disappears
- but cannot be found inside the clipboard.
ANSWER
If you want the marked text to be copied to the clipboard you have to
press Shift-Del.

I do not want archives to be sorted like directories.
ANSWER
That's no problem. At "Options|Compression...|Archives" you can change
the sort method of archives. Please turn to the online-help in this
dialogue for further information.

Does UFO work on 286 computers?
ANSWER
Yes. UFO doesn't (yet) use 386 specific commands.

How can I register?
ANSWER
To register is very easy and works as follows:
■ Fill out the file ORDER.FRM (by a editor or a pen, if it is printed)
and fax or mail it. For the address turn to the file SUPPORT.TXT.
■ Or at CompuServe's SWREG (GO SWREG, keyword: UFO).

When I use Windows 95 strange characters appear at the window frames
in UFO. How can I fix it?
The problem is Windows 95 but you can fix it easily.
Search your CONFIG.SYS for the line beginning with "Country=".
Alter the line so that the two following numbers are "049" and "437".
E.G.: Country=049,437,D:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys
The following lines should be placed at the end of your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
Please notice that in both lines has to stand the number "437".
E.G.: mode con codepage prepare=((437) D:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ega.cpi)

The page-down key does not work in the viewer. Why?
The UFO file viewer is not compatible to some mouse drivers. If there is
no mouse driver active in memory the file viewer should work perfectly.
You should use a Microsoft or Microsoft compatible mouse driver.

UFO does not display long filenames but I have installed
Windows 95. Why?
In order to have UFO process long filenames Windows 95 must be active.
In the MS-DOS-Mode this function does not exist. You should start UFO 96
in the MS-DOS-Prompt in Windows 95.
